Gun Control : How many more tragedies before we get no-Gun zones?

This Friday afternoon is not easy to forget and we all know why, certain Adam Lanza picked this day to go on rampage with a gun. The place he chose was a school with young kids. As President Obama rightly said "They had entire lives ahead of them". I had tears in my eyes when I saw the news on this shootout, as a father of a lively toddler, I can feel what this loss means to the Parents. My heartfelt prayers to god to give them courage to face this tough situation.

But sadly, this disastrous incident was not enough to move Obama to spell out what action he is going to take. I'm not going to ask for Gun control laws, yes, i'm not going to. What puzzles me is that it took just one 09/11 to get security agencies of USA on red alert. There were some harsh measures, but results are there for everyone to see, not one terrorism related incident after that. Don't this incident deserve that kind of response and action from the Govt. of USA. Forget Gun control laws, how about mandating metal detectors to screen people in public places such as movie theaters, shopping malls, schools & offices? Ever been to India, what's the most frequent thing you see? Yes, it's a metal detector, it's common thing in India where ever you go, a shopping mall, movie theater,  offices, almost everywhere. I must tell you it didn't make it to schools yet!

And so i'm surprised to see nobody is asking for no-gun zones just like no-smoking zones. For example you can ask people to leave their guns in a locker when entering shopping malls, schools, theaters. Isn't this basic preventive measure enough to stop lot of tragedies that happened in the recent past? Why is that nobody thinking in this direction, the moment a shootout happens everybody vociferously demands for a strict gun control laws, psychological evaluations, arming more people like teachers with guns (really?) for few days and then forget about it. I can't tell you how surprised i'm with the suggestion that you can control this menace by arming people like teachers with guns! How exactly are you going to make sure that one of them won't go rouge one fine day? There are other people who simply says you can't stop everything, well really? we all have the 09/11 incident and it's lessons before us. USA was able to stop that, why not these gun shoot out incidents. We just need will power & some meaningful discussion in congress and more importantly a President who can stand up to gun lobby and say enough is enough, we have lost enough lives, let's take these measures now to stop this nonsense.

Here is hoping for some action on this front, let's wish that we will not have to see a heart-wrenching tragedy like this again, never again, never again......
